If you have ever felt that local original music is all sounding the same, you haven’t heard Stricken One. Starting out life as a cover band, they began stretching their creative barriers by starting to write their own music. Once the originals started flowing they began pushing hard against the walls that a strict rock and roll genre imposes and began bottling their own style, their own way.
Around 2005 guitarist Danny Pannet and drummer Jeff McKay began jamming in an attic in Swalwell Alberta. Over the years they formed a heavy, take no prisoners style of musical chemistry. In a chance meeting at an outdoor show they saw vocalist Sean Abell fronting another band. They agreed that Sean was clearly THE vocalist they hoped to find. Sean and the bass player from that group joined forces with Danny and Jeff and formed a cover band. Feeding off the chemistry they had together they decided to shift gears and began writing originals. Shortly after that the bass player had left the band. They continued writing and searching for a bass player that would fit the mold for their all-original project. Fate eventually stepped in. The guys met Dan Lauber, a busy local bass player. It didn’t even take one full jam session to realize that the 3 way chemistry had just become 4. Since then they’ve been storming the live music scene. Writing original music and building momentum.
Vocals from whispers to in-your-face aggression. Strings from melodic and haunting to heavy rocking thunder. Splash cymbals to double kick fury.
This is Stricken One!
